Preface to Special Women Worth Watching
Feature
By Steven L. Miller

Steven L. Miller, retired chairman of the board
of directors, president and CEO of Shell Oil Company (1999 to 2002),
serves as Honorary Chair of the PDJ Advisory Board. Mr. Miller believes
the phenomenal number of women featured in this year’s issue indicates
that “we are making real progress, in gender diversity at senior
levels.” He suggests that celebrating and learning from these women
exemplifying gender diversity traction will speed the progress of
diversity from other sectors.

Catalyst
The Bottom Line
Catalyst’s groundbreaking research confirms that
companies recruiting, retaining, and advancing women will have a
competitive advantage in the global marketplace. Not only did companies
with the highest representation of women on their top management teams
have better financial performance than companies with the lowest women’s
representation, companies with the highest women’s representation on
their top management teams experienced a higher ROE than companies with
the lowest women’s representation. Notably, Catalyst Award-winning
companies financially outperformed the 339 other companies in the
sampling.
