What is your most rewarding career accomplishment?
My most rewarding career accomplishment is the role I have the privilege of playing in the lives of the young women I mentor.
What was the best advice you ever received?
The best advice I ever received was “make them hear you.” I tended to be unassuming in meetings, choosing to “fly under the radar.” When I discussed with a mentor that others were taking credit for my ideas, she responded with “make them hear you.” It is important to master appropriately exercising your voice with confidence and authority.
What business leader has inspired you the most and why?
Dr. Sybil Mobley, Dean Emeritus of the School of Business and Industry at Florida A&M University. Dr. Mobley is a force of nature who has been a pioneer in business education. She established strong partnerships with corporate leaders, and nurtured and developed thousands of business leaders of color.
What do you think is the greatest issue or dilemma facing the African-American community today?
The greatest issue facing the African American community is education. It is imperative that we address the gap in educational opportunities and outcomes, beginning at a very early age so that our children are prepared to flourish in a global marketplace.
